PIPCLT is hiring!

Dear Community of Supporters,

Like many of you, Partnership in Property Commercial Land Trust is moving through the final months of 2021 reflecting on how much we accomplished and planning for an even more fruitful and powerful 2022. After years of laying down a strong foundation, we are approaching 2022 with abundance, gratitude and intention.

We want to keep you in the loop about how PIPCLT continues to move and grow in community:

Board Member Spotlight:

This is a new addition to our newsletter! We want you to know who is supporting the strategic direction and growth of the organization. For the next several newsletters, we will spotlight one of our board members. Today, learn more about:

Qannani Omar

  • What do you do? I am a Housing Organizer at Harrison Neighborhood Association. I also run a small business with my family, we cater and produce retail food products that highlight Oromo flavors and spices.

  • What neighborhood do you live in? Downtown West

  • Why did you join PIPCLT board? The last several years has caused many local businesses in local neighborhoods to be pushed out due to gentrification. Joining the board allows me to work on building a larger eco-system of community-owned projects and investments. The ability to create affordable commercial spaces will support Minneapolis in meeting the needs of our Black, Indigenous, and immigrant business communities who are the cultural fabric of our City. I am excited to be a part of an organization who is working with the community to advance racial equity in actionable-outcome driven ways.

  • Fun Fact: I call milkshakes frappes (former Mass. resident)!

Business Spotlight:

This is a ALSO a new addition to our newsletter! We want you to meet our business partners. First up, the Northside Investment Cooperative Enterprise (NICE) MN.

  • Tell us about your business: The Northside Investment Cooperative Enterprise or NICE is focused on Northside Investment in properties to maintain affordable housing and commercial spaces for Northsiders prioritizing Black, Indigineous, and People of Color. The Cooperative model helps our collective resources reach community goals. We all invest together and each member has one vote regardless of contribution level.

  • Where are you headquartered? We don't have an office, we operate virtually. Our focus, mission, vision is on investment on the Northside by Northsiders.

  • Why did you want to partner with PIPCLT? PIPCLT's mission and vision closely align with the mission of NICE. Long term affordability, local investment and ownership, and a firm commitment to investing in BIPOC businesses and residents.

  • What is a way others can engage with your business? We are currently looking for new Members! If you live in north Minneapolis and support the vision of NICE, consider becoming a member today! A few minutes filling out the membership form and a purchase of a full or subsidized membership share is all it takes! We are also hiring a part time Cooperative Advocate to do outreach!

That’s it for now folks. We’ll send you more updates from the PIPCLT team soon!

In partnership,
Domonique Jones, Executive Director and PIPCLT Board Members: Danielle Mkali, Aarica Coleman, DeVon Nolen, Jimmy Loyd, Taylor Smrikárova (née Cooper), Cameran Bailey, Barbara Hall, Andrew McLean, Kowsar Mohamed, Zahnia Harut and Qannani Omar, Davis Senseman, Mark Fick and E. Coco.
