Our History.

Partnership in Property Commercial Land Trust was born out of a pilot program housed at the City of Lakes Community Land Trust (CLCLT). The CLCLT, a national leader in residential land trusts, has, for nearly two decades, assisted 400+ low to moderate income households into perpetually affordable homeownership and seen 90+ resales.

In 2017, the CLCLT began to explore the feasibility and potential operations of a Commercial CLT model with the support of national consultant Michael Brown of Burlington and Associates.

Dreaming of a Commercial Land Trust

In the fall of 2018, the CLCLT convened an advisory committee to advise and create specific recommendations around the mechanics of a Commercial CLT. The advisory committee included local business, community development corporations, funders, and government representatives. Their recommendation to initiate a pilot was approved by the CLCLT Board, leading to the creation of the Commercial Land Trust Initiative (CLTI).

    Advisory and Leadership

In spring 2019, the CLTI assembled the founding Advisory Board and moved to hire the first staff member, Domonique Jones, as program director in late fall 2019.
